Tallahassee Trip: Advocacy in Action

HTFF members recently traveled to Tallahassee to meet directly with members of Senate counsel regarding concerns surrounding House Bill 991 and Senate Bill 1334.

During these discussions, members voiced serious concerns that the bills could:

  • Increase financial burdens on voters
  • Create procedural hurdles
  • Add unnecessary inconvenience that may discourage civic participation

Our delegation emphasized that democracy functions best when access is expanded — not restricted. When policies create cost barriers or administrative confusion, the communities most impacted are often those already historically marginalized.

This trip was a success not simply because meetings occurred — but because voices were heard.

Advocacy requires presence.
Presence creates accountability.
Accountability protects democracy.
