Our Work
Civic Education and Community-Building Initiatives

Our work in Civic Education and Engagement includes efforts in Voting Rights, Voter Registration, Mobilization, and Election Protection. We are a partner with FRRC’s Fines and Fees Program, working together to help justice-impacted individuals overcome voting barriers. We are committed to Social and Economic Justice, which involves the fair treatment of all people in society, and Criminal Justice Reform, working with the Southern Poverty Law Center to reduce the population of jailed, detained, and incarcerated juveniles and adults.

Environmental Justice

In the Sidney Brown community, the situation was dire, with environmental injustice being pervasive.
HTFF volunteers spoke with neighbors who shared fears about:
- Trash piled near homes and public walkways
- Debris scattered across open lots
- Burnt houses left unattended
- Broken furniture and household waste littered around the area
- Dangerous conditions directly near a bus stop used by children
Residents said these hazards weren’t new — they’ve been ignored.
HTFF is now:
- Demanding the city pick up trash in the affected zones
- Challenging officials to complete unfinished street paving
- Calling out the negligence that leaves children walking through unsafe spaces daily
We have cleaned, bagged, and cleared multiple sections already — with more areas scheduled for cleanup in upcoming weeks.
